Midwin Protest Resolved

It was a dark and windy day.  Suddenly a shot rang out!

That was the start of the postponed Sunday MidWins, with moved start and finish and a deferral, all in the interest of avoiding an onrushing squall line.  The moved line led to an "orphaned" mark that, while it could be passed on the correct side, led some racers to round it as well and protest those who did not.

This caused some amount of buzz on the local and national sailing blog sites.

With a total of 22 parties to the four protests, we held a mass protest hearing in the CYC boardroom.  Not the marching around with signs and shouting kind, actually it was very civil, and downright friendly after PRO Botkin showed up with a sackful of bar tickets!

At the end of the day, after careful and thoughtful discussions, and long consideration of the issues, the protests were denied.  The courses sailed by the overwhelming majority were correct, as were those who did the additional rounding.  Given the interest and time invested by the parties, we took extra care to write up the result, which is attached for your interest.

The race committee is updating the results with a few scoring corrections, using the latest version of the software.  Otherwise, we'll see you all next month!  And thanks to all who served on the committee and participated so nicely in the hearing.
