The results tell quite a story. Creepy pre-deluge pressure zone choked off the wind to a mere breath, turning our treasured MidWins into a real challenge of light-air boathandling. Many fleets washed out entirely, others had but one or two finishers. The good news is that CYC's sailing instructions show a little mercy in this case. The sole finisher gets one point, everybody else that started gets two.
PRO Botkin reports: "The wind was light out of the north-northwest at about 5 kn. The first start got off at 12 o'clock but ended in a general recall as most of the fleet was over early and many were headed in the wrong direction. After a brief postponement to explain things ("you're headed to the east, guys") all went well. We used course six for the first four classes and course five for the next three. That finished up the PHRF, IRC and Non-Spin one and two fleets. At that point we went into postponement -- -- as planned -- -- to set things up for the one design fleets. The wind also went into postponement on most of the central Bay, frustrating our plan to finish "on the water". We chose course four for the remaining starts with all but the last start (Non-Spin three ) headed east in Raccoon Strait. After that there went pretty much died and only one boat out of the one designs finish the course. All of the one design races except except for express 37 were abandoned. Pineapple Sails bought a keg of beer for the fleet, we had a first rate meal and a great band for dancing."
