Who are the Corinthian Women?

The Corinthian Women (TCW) is an active group of women members who plan and participate in many club events. TCW meets the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm in the Board Room and all women club members are welcome. It's a great way to get to know people in the club and play an active role! Our members include moms, professional women, retired women, sailors and women who get seasick! We always need volunteers to support our activities and the operation of the store. If you would like to get involved please attend one of our meetings. Our activities include social events such as Easter Brunch and Egg Hunt and Santa's Brunch. We host an annual luncheon and are active in Easter Seals on the Bay day. We also operate the Club Store, which sells clothing and accessories appropriate for boating with the club burgee. We host an annual Women's Sailing Seminar that attracts both club members and participants from all over the bay area.
We also support the club with needed gifts purchased from the profits from our club store.

TCW's Women's Sailing Seminar

Ahoy Ladies! The Women’s Sailing Seminar was held this year on Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17!

Each year this two day seminar is hosted by The Corinthian Women and run by Corinthian volunteers.

We began each morning with a light breakfast followed by classroom instruction. This instruction will teach students terminology, rules on the water, wind direction, tying knots, tides, and much more. After lunch we go aboard for hands-on learning on the water. Students put into practice what was learned that morning!

Dames at SeaEach boat will have an experienced skipper and an instructor to guide you and answer any questions. All of our volunteers are patient teachers/sailors, having once been novices themselves they are delighted to be sharing their passion of sailing with you.

Please join us next year for two days of sailing, learning and fun!

A hearty sailor breakfast and welcome starts the day. We have an expert from West Marine who talks about what to wear. Pictured as some Fashion Do's and Don'ts as well as John and Sharon Warren talking about Destination Sailing to exotic places.

About 25% of the seminar is classroom lecture. We try to make the lectures fun and entertaining without compromising an emphasis on SAFETY.

About 35% of the seminar involves Interactive Skillbuilding Stations. Participants rotate through stations where they receive individualized help. Stations include: learning terminology, tying knots, handling line, cleating, and sending a radio message.

Understanding Safety

In the seminar, you are on boats and/or on the water about 60% of the time. All boats have a "skipper" who is generally the boat owner. We also have an "instructor" on the boat and try to have that be a woman. Typically, there are 4-5 new sailors on each boat.

The last day of the seminar, June 10, 2006, we had a "friendly" race among the boats. Everyone loved it.

During the seminar, there are two receptions to which we invite your family and friends. We have great food, iveaways, and, of course, wine and champagne - we are women after all. A good time is had by all.
