Carol Keiper -- Marine Ecologist
Carol Keiper, ecologist specializing in marine birds and mammals, has a degree in Education as well as a Master’s Degree in Marine Science from Moss Landing Marine Laboratories. Her research has focused on the effect of changing ocean conditions on the ecology of marine mammals. In 2005, she received an Environmental Hero Award from NOAA for her “tireless efforts to preserve and protect our nation’s environment.”
Carol is a founding board member and researcher with Oikonos Ecosystem Knowledge, a non-profit organization. She has worked on seabird research and created outreach education activities for educators and communities. She recently completed a project on risk assessment of vessel traffic on the endangered Blue and Humpback whales. For 25 years she has been leading Natural History trips in Baja California, Alaska, the Gulf of the Farallones, and Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuaries. Her experience as a teacher, naturalist, scientist and avid sailor make her an ideal person to share the wonders of the marine environment, and the value of conservation.
