CYC FNR: Minor tweak to SI's

Error-Free Racing!

Yup! That's our goal. Okay, let's be honest, the goal over the last three races has been just to finish the darned thing. Through selection of aggressively short courses last week, we accomplished that (gotta clear out the glasses somehow....).

Now, with a steady weather pattern settling in for the weekend, maybe we try a bit longer.

But not too long, we hope! The Pelican Grille and Main DIning Room staff have been going overboard with an array of delectables to go along with your, um, socializing.

Since we've only finished one race, it's Waaaaay not too late to enter! GO on! Do it! You know you want to! If everybody else jumped off the roof, wouldn't you want to do it too? http://www.cyc.org/race/friday.html

KA-BOOM!

I don't care what they say. The KFOG Kaboom is the coolest event on the water. Saturday, May 10. It's at night, duh, so check out your lights before you go out. Isn't that nicer than telling you to have them on for the end of the race? And for goodness sake, do not shine your spotlight on other boats.

What I learned from the Admiral

I had the signal pleasure of sitting next to the Admiral at Opening Day at CYC. "Which admiral?" you ask. Well... THE admiral. The admiral in charge of the Coast Guard for the local area. Vice Admiral Wurster. A really cool guy, as it turns out. By local I mean our hemisphere. Yup, "holy crap" was my response when he answered my question about the range of his command. Rocky Mountains to the Indian Ocean. Pole to Pole. Good golly. What did I learn, you ask? There are mnemonics for remembering the meanings of the nautical flags. "Whiskey" is "Red Eye" Remember it is a red square surrounded by white surrounded by blue. "Delta: a river through land." That's a blue stripe horizontally through a yellow field. But darned if we could recall the rest. Can anybody help here?

Ok. Get out there and race.
