Virtuoso: Stan Honey
Talking about his stint on ABN-AMRO in the recent Volvo Ocean Race around the world.

Maybe we can get him to talk about a few other things too....
August 9: Reserve Now!

It's difficult to give Stan Honey the credit he deserves. An accomplished sailor, navigator, weather guru, tactician, electrical engineer, and entrepreneur, Stan is the guy many of us wish we were! He's confident, but unassuming. It's harder to feed him a compliment than to get a picky eater to consume a plate of Brussels sprouts. We're thrilled that he's coming to our club to tell us about the 2005-2006 Volvo race around the world. Oh, and did we mention that Stan's boat took first place?

And by "first place," we mean "dominated from beginning to end almost to the point of making the stellar accomplishment of racing around the globe seem easy." We imagine that the trophy for that sits in the garage along with the scores of wins and records Stan has to his account. He holds several Trans-Pacific records and even more first-place wins. Currently, Stan is involved with the "Morning Light" project sponsored by Disney.

Stan, with his wife Sally (twice Rolex Yachtswoman of the Year) Lindsay Honey, have given thousands of hours to the sailing community, including service on offshore safety committees, helping lead Pacific Cup and TransPac organizations, providing weather instruction, and more. With Jim Corenman, Stan and others created the SailMail system on which many offshore sailors rely for communication. In the "real" world of television, Stan invented and commercialized the thingie that makes the camera track and highlight a hockey puck (try watching hockey without it) and the system that does graphical overlays on football broadcasts.

Go wild. Do a google search on Stan Honey. You'll be amazed at his dominant presence in the world of sailing. We can tell you from personal experience that he's an excellent and articulate speaker.

Stan joins us August 9. A buffet dinner at 6 pm will be followed by the talk at 7 pm.
Admission is a $10 donation
