Friday, June 10 -- Philippe Kahn The Corinthian Yacht Club is proud to announce that Philippe Kahn, avid sailor and serial technologist entrepreneur, will be speaking in person at the Corinthian Yacht Club on Friday, June 10. This is a unique opportunity to meet with one of most successful sailors on the planet who is sharing his passion with younger sailors who aspire to Olympic dreams. Philippe's sailing successes include winning two Transpacs and two Pacific Cup races as well as excelling in numerous events in boats such as supersleds, Melges 24, Farr 40s and Finns. Furthermore, Philippe has taken line honors twice in the single handed Farallons race. A French-born mathematician, Philippe's graduate and postgraduate work was in pure mathematics. In the 1970s, he worked in Zurich, Switzerland under Niklaus Wirth on Pascal, the computer programming language. In 1982 Philippe founded Borland International, the industry independent leader for professional software development tools. While at Borland, Philippe spearheaded the object-computing revolution and the move to component-based software, changing software development methodologies forever. Subsequent to Borland, Philippe founded Starfish Software, which he sold to Motorola, after which he created Lightsurf, which he recently sold to Verisign.
Philippe is passionate about growing the sport of sailing, and has now backed that passion by creating the opportunity for hot sailors who aspire to become Olympic champions to join Team Pegasus. This unique program employs Olympic champions Kevin Burnham and Mark Reynolds, among others, and will be the subject of Philippe’s talk to the club.
