The Corinthian Yacht Club Speaker Series

Rich Wilson

September 09, 2004

Rich Wilson, one of the most adventurous ocean sailors and educators on the planet today, will be speaking in person at the Corinthian Yacht Club on Thursday, September 9 at 7pm.

Rich Wilson is Skipper of Great American II and President and Founder of sitesALIVE!, an online, interactive, learning adventure series of 75 live programs for K-12 education that connects live expeditions to classrooms. He has set three world sailing records challenging the great clipper records: from San Francisco to Boston by way of Cape Horn in 1993 (California Gold Rush); New York to Melbourne by way of Cape of Good Hope in 2001 (Australian Gold Rush); Hong Kong to New York by way of Cape of Good Hope in 2003 (China Tea Trade). In 1990, off the Horn, he suffered a disastrous double capsize in 65' seas, but lived to challenge again in 1993 to complete that goal. Rich and Great American II spent some time here at the Corinthian Yacht Club in 1993.

Rich and his voyages have been featured by Reader's Digest, Sports Illustrated, NBC, CNN, The Today Show, NPR, New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, Harvard Business School Bulletin, and others. Come join Rich for a memorable evening on Thursday, September 9, at the beautiful Corinthian Yacht Club.

The doors will open at the club at 6pm, and a buffet ($10/person) and a no-host bar will be available. Rich will start his talk around 7:00, and we expect to wrap up around 9:00. Admission is only $10 per person, and proceeds will be donated to the sitesALIVE! Foundation.

We strongly encourage you to make reservations, as there will be limited seating. To make reservations, please call the club at 415-435-4771 or make your reservation online here.

For CYC members and their guests, the Thursday Bistro Night will be also be serving à la carte dinner in the Member's Bar from 5 to 9 pm. (Please also make Bistro reservations if you plan to enjoy a Bistro dinner before or after the event).
